Exposure and Accessibility. These were the two words in mind when Sat Naam revealed itself to those in attendance at the Baldwin Village Health Fair on Saturday, October 27th from 1-3pm.
The BVHF, located at Jim Gilliam Recreation Center on 4000 S. La Brea Avenue, was alive with community consciousness. Acting as MC, Mr. Jones guided the course of the health and community events and entertainment, which included a well received on stage demonstration of Yoga by Mirabelle Ang and Lance Williams.
Many local vendors and area-based organizations were present with booths both informative and convenient. The BVHF went well, with great opportunities for community introduction, interaction and organization-to-organization networking.

Our Workshop in Wellness - November 11th
The well trained and skillful healing talents of Mr. Masa Nakamura and Ms. Stacy Harris were put to use at Sat Naam’s November 11th Wellness Workshop. An introduction to the healing arts of kinesiology and cranio sacral therapy were defined, explained, and demonstrated to a really wonderful turnout. Some Sat Naam regulars in addition to some completely new faces were in attendance at the first of many alternative health oriented practices to be made available at our fledgling healing and arts center. Who said that the road to seeking good health couldn’t also be fun and informative. This is definitely obvious from the photos luckily captured at our first wellness workshop.
A Community Garden "Update"
Ever thankfully, Sat Naam has made headway regarding our much eagerly awaited community organic garden. With the idea of “one step at a time” in mind, the Sat Naam Creative and Healing Arts Center has made its commendable first steps toward the garden’s manifestation. Being new to creating new endeavors is joyously becoming old hat, And… we would like to tip our proverbial hat to all those involved behind the scenes. We are eagerly waiting for the time to come when we can share the first processes of the construction of The Sat Naam Community Organic Garden with everyone .
We've included a photo of where the Garden will be!! What a great transformation!:)

Exploring Wellness - November 11th!

We thought it was just about time to have a well needed health oriented workshop. It's coming up on November and Sat Naam, as a platform for overall community enrichment, has decided to invite some of our good health guru friends to bring their new healing methods our space.
Masato Nakamura is certified and trained in many forms of healing such has Shiatsu Massage and a Japanese healing method called Sotai, and Stacy Harris is trained and certified in Polarity Healing Therapy and Deep Tissue massage. They both have jointly come to Sat Naam Creative and Healing Arts Center to host our first Wellness workshop this November 11th where they will talk about these natural healing methods as well as Cranio Sacral therapy and Kinesiology.
This workshop serves to demonstrate the availability of gentle and subtle forms of health and healing options which are now available in our part of town, in our community and right in our own space. Whether from the neighboring community or from far away please come in and join us in our first of many explorations in wellness.
This workshop is happening Sunday, November 11th, 2007 from 3-4:30pm at
Sat Naam Creative and Healing Arts Center
2526 W. Jefferson Blvd. @ 6th Avenue (between Arlington Ave. & Crenshaw Blvd.)

Volunteer Appreciation!
Sat Naam would not be able to exist without it's volunteers - that's everyone from the teachers, to the web designer, to people that helped paint and remodel our space, and to those that help us organize the business part of us (yes, unfortunately there is that too;). So I decided to have a special tea party for those who have helped US be US. The spread was grand and it was great to hang out, talk, and eat - 3 of my favorite things!
Here's a photo of some (not all) of our lovely volunteers:)

Jefferson Park Block Party
On August 4th the Jefferson Park Community, which is the community that Sat Naam is located in, held it's first annual Block Party. Sat Naam was very lucky to be part of this special event where local artists and community members came together to celebrate Jefferson Park with music, food, and other outdoor activities for the entire family. Even though it was extremely hot that day, we had a great time getting to know and sharing with everyone:)
Teaching Yoga to A Special Group
One of my favorite projects this summer has been teaching a yoga class to adults with learning disabilities through an organization called CSU. To find out more about CSU got to www.csuinc.org - they're a great organization that works with creating urban farms in South Central LA, and they're helping us with our own community garden project.
It 's a pleasure to be able to work with these lovely people and I've learned so much from them, especially how to laugh and enjoy myself while doing yoga. Sometimes you forget to have fun doing what you're doing and this group reminds me that that's really what it's all about.
